Wisdom Tooth Removal

In most cases, wisdom teeth grow without problems, but occasionally they might not have enough room to come through properly. In this instance, they may grow at a difficult angle and cause what’s known as a tooth impaction. This can cause a lot of discomfort, which is why you should always come and see us if your wisdom teeth are causing you bother.

If left untreated, impacted wisdom teeth can lead to infection, so having the tooth removed will prevent any unpleasant symptoms and leave you with a happy, healthy smile.

Tooth Extraction Aftercare Tips

We will give you plenty of aftercare advice once your treatment is complete and you’re relaxing in our comfortable environment, but here are some rough guidelines on how to take care of your gums when you’ve had a tooth removed:

  • Avoid hot food for the first 24 hours, and refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol.
  • Avoid rinsing your mouth out for the first 24 hours, but when you do come to rinse, use warm saltwater (you’ll only need half a teaspoon of salt)
  • Brush and floss your other teeth as you would normally.
  • If you experience any soreness, take over-the-counter painkillers to provide relief.

If you’re still feeling pain a few days after your surgery, please come back to see us as soon as possible, so that we can soothe any soreness and help to speed up your recovery.
