5 Reasons to Choose Dental Implants

If you have been suffering from missing teeth, you may well have heard about dental implants and wondered if they are the right solution for you. In this article, we look at why dental implants can be a good choice, what’s involved in the treatment and how they can help you to enjoy a new lease of life with the confidence of a smile you can trust in.

1. Dental implants improve your confidence

Missing teeth affect everybody differently, but studies have shown that almost everybody will experience a loss in confidence and lower self esteem, which can have a real impact on your quality of life. It is not unusual for people with gaps to begin making efforts to hide their teeth.

Some people avoid smiling and laughing, while others may find themselves covering their mouth when speaking.

The lack of confidence make people reluctant to socialise, which can affect friendships and relationships and may lead to a sense of loneliness and isolation

At work, people with missing teeth may avoid pitching, giving presentations or attending meetings that put them in the spotlight, or even avoid interviewing for new positions and promotions. All of this can hold you back in your career and prevent you from reaching your true potential.

2. Dental implants improve dental health

Dentists agree that it is almost always best to replace missing teeth, and there are several reasons for this. One of these is oral hygiene, as gaps in your teeth will expose the sensitive sides of other teeth. Gaps can be hard to brush properly and may also cause discomfort that compounds the problem, leaving you at an increased risk of tooth decay.

When we use our natural teeth while eating, the chewing action stimulates the bone in our jaw and helps to keep it strong and healthy. This sensation is lost when teeth are missing, which will often cause the bone to weaken and recede over time. This weakness can spread, meaning you are at increased risk of other teeth becoming unstable or even failing.

Receding bone also affects your bite, which can lead to aches and discomfort over a prolonged period of time and can contribute to the appearance of early aging as your jaw begins to change shape. Consequently, dental implants can also help you to stay looking younger for longer.

3. Dental implants look and feel natural

There are three components to dental implants. Firstly, we have the implant itself. This is a replacement for the missing root and is made from biocompatible titanium which means that it is able to bond with the natural bone, forming a strong, permanent root for your replacement tooth and helping to strengthen the jaw against further weakness.

The replacement tooth itself is known as a crown, and is the only visible part. A crown will be shaped and coloured to look just like your natural teeth, so that nobody will ever know the difference. It will also feel exactly the same.

Finally, connecting these two elements is a component known as an abutment.

Because dental implants replace the root as well as the tooth, they are a permanent solution and don’t rely on other teeth for support, as is the case with traditional alternatives such as bridges. The result is a comfortable new smile that looks and feels as if you’d never lost your teeth.

4. Dental implant treatment is safe and painless

Here at Bridge Dental & Implant Clinic, our patients can relax in the knowledge that the entire dental implant process is performed by our expert implantologist, Dr Moss Osman, who has been helping patients to enjoy a new smile for over thirteen years.

Dr Osman is a member of the International Team of Implantologists (ITI), a group of academics, and clinicians who are dedicated to research and teaching in implantology. He is a certified Straumann™ implant user and accredited mentor in implant dentistry. In addition, he is member of the A.D.I. (Association of Dental Implantology), the British Dental Association (BDA) and British Society for Occlusal Studies (BSOS).

The treatment will be carried out under local anaesthetic so that you feel no pain at all during the process, and over his years of experience, Dr Osman has gained a reputation for his gentle and sensitive approach.

It should be remembered that dental implant treatment is a minor surgical procedure, and some discomfort may be experienced during healing. However, we pride ourselves in the aftercare we offer our patients and will ensure that you have everything you need to feel at your best from day one.

5. Dental implants are suitable for almost everyone

Because dental implant treatment involves replacing the root of the missing tooth or teeth, they are suitable for almost every patient, whether you have lost a single tooth, multiple teeth or even a complete arch. They can be used no matter what the cause of tooth loss, be it dental trauma (teeth knocked out), tooth decay or gum disease or simple the natural ageing process.

To find out more about dental implants and whether they are right for you, we recommend that you book a free, no obligation dental implants consultation with our experienced Treatment Coordinator, who will be more than happy to discuss the treatment in more detail and answer any questions you may have.
