Is Invisalign the Answer to Your ‘Perfect’ Smile?

Is Invisalign the answer to your ‘perfect’ smile?

If you feel self-conscious about your teeth then quite possibly the thought of wedding photographs, graduation pictures or even taking a selfie could be one that fills you with dread.

Have you always dreamed of having a straighter smile? Has the thought of ‘train-track’ braces always put you off? If that’s the case then Invisalign is one solution that’s definitely worth considering.

The beauty of Invisalign is that, like many things these days, it’s wireless! Invisalign uses a series of clear, plastic, removable aligners that gently and gradually move your teeth into the straight smile that you’ve always dreamed of.

Invisalign is suitable for correcting a whole range of orthodontic problems. This includes overcrowded and crooked teeth and closing wide spaces between your teeth. It can also solve the problems of overbites, underbites and crossbites.

How does it work?

You might ask, well, how does that work? Simply put, the Invisalign aligners exert gentle forces onto the teeth, which subsequently guides them into the ultimate desired position. Treatment times vary from person to person. It will depend on how much tooth repositioning is required. However, the average treatment completion time is between 9 and 18 months.

Before your aligners are made we will need to take some impressions of your teeth. These will then be sent to the Invisalign laboratory where your complete sets of aligners will be crafted by their technicians. Each set of aligners is worn for approximately two weeks before moving on to the next set. Your dentist will advise you on this and monitor your progress regularly (approximately every 6 weeks).

What are the benefits of wearing Invisalign aligners?

Without a doubt, the biggest benefit of wearing Invisalign aligners when compared to the traditional metal braces is that they’re clear! Invisalign is virtually invisible, so no one need know that you’re having your teeth straightened, unless you tell them. Another huge plus point is that you can remove them to eat, or, if you’ve got a special occasion where you want to take a night off from them, you can (although it’s recommended that you wear the aligners for at least 16 hours a day, with 22 hours being the optimum).

At Bridge Dental and Implant Clinic our Invisalign trained dentist Dr Mujtaba Tahir (GDC 85567) can assess your suitability for Invisalign treatment. Although it’s a treatment that is suitable for most cases, there are some instances when he may recommend a different treatment in order to attain the results that you desire.

Dr Tahir has a wide span of knowledge of many different orthodontic systems and as a member of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry you can be assured that he’ll help you achieve the perfect smile you’ve been dreaming of!
